Terms & Conditions

The agreement between you and SolarMOT when you take out a maintenance plan.

Before you publish: the placeholders marked [COMPANY NUMBER] and [REGISTERED ADDRESS] must be completed, and these terms should be reviewed by a solicitor. They were drafted to match how SolarMOT actually operates, but they are not legal advice.

1. Who we are

These terms are between you and SolarMOT Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number [COMPANY NUMBER]), registered office [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. You can reach us at hello@solarmot.co.uk or 07891 110865.

2. What we do — and what we don't

We provide cleaning, inspection and minor repair of existing solar photovoltaic systems. We are not an MCS-certified installer. We do not sell, design or install solar systems, and we do not certify them.

“Solar MOT” is our own descriptive name for a documented maintenance visit. It is not a statutory test, carries no legal standing, and must not be treated as a substitute for any inspection required by your installer, insurer or warranty provider.

3. Your plan

PlanPriceScheduled visitsMinimum term
Essential£19.99/month + £149 initial survey1 a yearNone
Standard£29.99/month + £75 initial survey2 a year12 months
Premium£39.99/month, survey included2 a year + 2 callouts12 months

Commercial agreements are priced per kWp per year with a minimum annual contract value, and are set out in your individual quotation rather than here.

4. The initial survey

Because we did not install your system, your first visit is a baseline survey: we record its condition, fixings, cabling, connectors, isolators and inverter, and issue a written report. The survey fee is payable once, at sign-up, and is not refundable once the survey has been carried out (except where you cancel under section 6 before it takes place).

If the survey finds that a system is unsafe, inaccessible, or in a condition we cannot responsibly maintain, we may decline to provide ongoing service. If that happens we will tell you why in writing and refund your first monthly payment.

5. Payment

Monthly payments are collected by Direct Debit through GoCardless under the Direct Debit Guarantee. Payment is taken monthly in advance from the date you sign up. Prices shown are the total payable; nothing is added at checkout.

If a payment fails we will attempt to collect it again and let you know. If payment remains outstanding after 30 days we may suspend visits until the account is up to date.

6. Your right to cancel (14 days)

Because you signed up online, you have the right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 to cancel within 14 days of signing up, without giving a reason. Email hello@solarmot.co.uk and we will refund you in full.

If you ask us to carry out a visit or survey inside that 14-day period and then cancel, we may charge you a proportionate amount for the work already done.

7. Ending your plan after that

Essential has no minimum term. Cancel at any time and your plan ends at the close of your current paid month. There is no exit fee.

Standard and Premium run for 12 months because they include repairs and callout cover. After the initial 12 months they continue monthly and can be cancelled with one month's notice.

We may end your plan by giving you 30 days' notice, or immediately if we cannot access the property safely, if the system is unsafe, or if payments remain unpaid.

8. What's included and what isn't

Included: scheduled cleaning, the documented inspection, a written report, and — on Standard and Premium — minor repairs, meaning fixings, seals, connectors and cable management.

Not included: replacement parts, inverters, panels, isolators, scaffolding, and any work beyond minor repair. We will always quote before carrying out chargeable work, and will never do it without your agreement. Premium members receive 20% off such work.

Premium includes two callouts per 12-month period between scheduled visits; further callouts are charged at £75.

9. Access and safety

You are responsible for giving us safe access. We will not work at height in unsafe weather, on unsafe roof structures, or where safe access cannot be established, and we may reschedule a visit for those reasons at no cost to you.

If we attend at an agreed time and cannot gain access, we may treat the visit as used or charge a missed-visit fee of £45. Please give us at least 24 hours' notice to rearrange.

10. Our liability

We hold public liability insurance and will put right any damage we cause through our own negligence. We are not liable for pre-existing faults, for defects in the original installation, or for loss of generation income arising from faults we did not cause.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.

11. Complaints

Email hello@solarmot.co.uk. We aim to acknowledge within one working day and resolve within 14 days.

12. General

We may update these terms; if a change materially affects you we will give you 30 days' notice and you may cancel without penalty. These terms are governed by the law of England & Wales and subject to the courts of England & Wales.
