Most UK domestic arrays need cleaning once or twice a year. Roofs near the coast, under trees, or close to farmland or busy roads soil faster and benefit from twice-yearly cleaning; a sheltered inland roof is usually fine annually. We don't sell quarterly cleaning, because for the large majority of homes it isn't necessary.
Yes, though how much depends entirely on how dirty they are. Rain rinses off light dust, but it does not shift bird droppings, moss, lichen or the greasy film that builds up near roads and coastlines. Localised soiling matters more than it looks: shading even part of one panel can drag down a whole string, so a small amount of dirt in the wrong place costs more than an even layer of dust.
It's our name for a documented annual check of your solar system: a full panel clean, plus an inspection of mounting and fixings, cabling and connectors, isolators, seals and weatherproofing, and the inverter and its error codes — finished with a written report and an output reading. "MOT" is used descriptively. It is not a statutory test and has no legal standing.
No. SolarMOT is a maintenance company only — we are not an MCS-certified installer and we don't sell or fit systems. We maintain arrays that somebody else installed, which is why every new customer starts with a baseline survey of a system we've not seen before.
We're currently booking across Dorset — the DT and BH postcode areas — including Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Dorchester, Weymouth, Wimborne, Ringwood, Blandford Forum, Sherborne, Bridport, Swanage and Wareham. Hampshire, Somerset, Devon and the wider South Coast follow in year two. If you're outside the area you can register your postcode and we'll email you when we reach it.
Minor repairs — fixings, seals, connectors and cable management — are included on the Standard and Premium plans and charged separately on Essential. Anything larger is quoted before any work starts, with a 20% discount on Premium. We never carry out chargeable work without telling you first.
Our plans run from £19.99 to £39.99 a month, paid by Direct Debit, plus a one-off initial survey of £149 on Essential and £75 on Standard, which is included free on Premium. For comparison, a one-off solar panel clean in the UK typically costs £80–£150 and a standalone annual service £120–£200.
Essential has no minimum term and no exit fee — you can cancel at any time. Standard and Premium run on a 12-month term because they include repairs and callout cover.
